Community Fridge Project
The community fridge project is a solution for consistent and sustainable food access where Black and Latino communities are food apartheid, disparities in food quality and historically rely on alternative ways to access food. We are partnered with local businesses where the current communities benefit from the project and overall enhance the experience of the business. The fridges are a free resource of healing with conscious food decision making provided by the community through the generosity of local businesses for holding space every day.
Persephonie believes that each one must reach one to sustain our community. Her goal is to nurture our neighborhoods through fresh foods, hydration, and local goods from farmers across the city of Chicago. As a health oriented practitioner and coach, I have a responsibility to my community and in the work I do, the single question I pose to myself and others is, “Who are you when your most basic needs are met?” and I am empowered on a daily basis to strive to answer this question for all through food security and community development.
How it works:
The supplies within the community fridge are available daily for anyone to take or provide food within the fridge guidelines with signup and prequalifications. Food and non perishables in the fridge are completely free to the community and are replenished as donations are received. Businesses who host fridges are community volunteers who align with our mission. The Community Fridge Project hopes to grow into several communities and encourages our neighbors to connect.
